Selangor Umno open to working with Pas

SHAH ALAM: Selangor Umno will not discount the possibility of working together with Pas to wrestle the state from Pakatan Harapan in the 14th General Election.

Its liaison committee secretary Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said such cooperation with the Islamist party, which currently holds 12 Selangor state assembly seats out of 56, might very much increase the chance for Umno to helm the state again.

“Should there be an offer or opening of doors (for such cooperation), we will leave it to the party leadership to decide,” he told reporters during a press conference, here earlier today.

Johan was asked on the Selangor Umno’s stand if Pas should open its doors for a possible cooperation to face the election.

To a question on the general sentiment among Selangor Umno leaders towards the option, Johan said: “Who does not want to win?”

On Umno’s chance to win Selangor following the recent fallout between Pas and Pakatan Harapan parties, he said while it would be advantageous, Umno will not bank on it and that the party is fully prepared for the race.

Meanwhile, on the party’s flag run in conjunction with its 71st Anniversary celebration, the Semenyih state assemblyman said 71 members from Selangor Umno Wanita, Pemuda and Puteri will carry the party flags from Shah Alam to Kuala Lumpur before handing them over to the Federal Territories Umno on May 10.

He said before the run starts at 4pm, Selangor Umno has also planned several activities for their state-level party celebration, including an awards presentation ceremony to two Umno veterans who had contributed to the party’s struggle.
