PKR disappointed at Pas for launching election machinery in Permatang Pauh

GEORGE TOWN: PKR today expressed its disappointment at Pas for launching its election machinery at Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency three days ago.

In not helping with the efforts to bring down the Barisan Nasional-Umno ‘regime,’ Pas’s action is seen as an act of provocation and arrogance, said PKR’s vice president Chua Tian Chang.

“Pas’ pledge to win the Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat will be seen as though the opposition parties are fighting among itself.

“This attitude contradicts Pas leader’s statement that it still considers itself as an opposition and wanted to defeat BN-Umno in the 14th General Election,” he said.

During the Permatang Pauh election machinery launch at Kubang Semang on Sunday, PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad had said that the Islamist party is still an opposition party.

Despite contesting against its former allies in the next polls, its main goal will be to continue to battle Umno.

Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat is currently being held by PKR President, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

It was previously held by PKR and Pakatan Harapan’s de-facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
