Penang BN hands over memo to MBPP, wants answer into Euro award scandal

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional Youth has submitted a memorandum to Penang Island City Council (MBPP) today urging the council to come clean on the controversy surrounding the Europe Business Assembly (EBA) awards.

Its chief Hng Chee Wey said the Penang government's credibility was at stake because MBPP and Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) have been alleged to have bought the awards from EBA back in 2013 and 2014.

"We have handed out our memorandum in the form of 10 questions calling the MBPP to come clean on the issue.

"They should answer this," he said in a press conference today.

"We want to know if the councillors knew about the alleged purchase of the awards, if money were involved, how much had been used to buy the awards and what steps have being taken to convince investors since the move affected the state government's integrity.

Hng said that the same memo would also be handed over to MPSP.

Both the councils came under fire after the legitimacy of the awards were questioned by Pulau Betong assemblyman Datuk Muhammad Farid Saad.

He claimed that checks on the EBA website showed that the organisation in question was profit-driven and sold awards to anyone willing to pay for them.
