DAP told to obey RoS instruction to hold CEC re-election

BUTTERWORTH: "Don't be arrogant and stubborn."

This was the terse message of former DAP Bagan Luar member R. Sarawana Morley to his former party which was instructed by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) last month to hold its Central Executive Committee (CEC) re-election.

Sarawana said it was high time the party leadership listened to the request of its grassroot members and delegates who wanted the party to make public its delegates' list for the 2012 CEC election, to be used for the re-election.

Former DAP Bagan Luar branch chairman G. Asoghan had said that the names of the delegates who were eligible to vote, along with their identification card numbers, branches and states, should be make public in the different newspapers as well as online, to avoid any confusion during the CEC re-election.

"DAP has always portrayed itself to be competent, accountable and transparent, but what happened to the party of late? Until now, it has not made public its delegates' list for the 2012 CEC election.

"We demand the party to do so as soon as possible. This is to ensure the re-election can be conducted in and open and transparent manner.

"As grassroot members, we do not want any element of fraud, forgery and sly tactics which can affect the re-election process. This is to protect the party at all cost," he told newsmen here today.

Sarawana said DAP should adhere to RoS' order and the party's constitution, and not follow the words of certain leaders who had tarnished the party's image.

Sarawana said the many lawyers within DAP should fight to right the wrong of the previous CEC election.

"What are they (the lawyers) doing now?" he asked.

In 2013, the RoS had ordered a re-election of DAP’s CEC after it found irregularities and manipulation of votes by the party in its initial election in December 2012.

After the re-election, there were claims by some party members that they were denied the right to attend the party congress as delegates.

In a statement last month, RoS instructed DAP to hold a re-election of the party’s CEC, saying that it was necessary as the election of CEC members and key positions via a re-election on Sept 29, 2013, was deemed unlawful.
