People had enough of opposition-led rallies: Mahdzir

PADANG TERAP: The poor turn out at the Pakatan Harapan-led rally yesterday proved that the people are fed up with the opposition leaders.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid said the people are no longer interested with such rally which was nothing but a platform to attack the Barisan Nasional government without offering a clear plan for the nation.

Mahdzir said this was reflected by the poor turnout, which was less than 10 per cent from what targetted in the "Love Malaysia, Anti-Kleptocracy" rally yesterday.

He said it was learnt that none of the coalition leaders talks about the blueprint or concrete plans to for the country throughout the rally from 4.30pm to 10.30.

"All the leaders, including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, did throughout the rally were condemn and hurl allegations against the BN.

"As the former prime minister and the coalition leader, it is inappropriate for Mahathir to label Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as the country's enemy.

"It is absurd and unbecoming for them (opposition leaders) to resort in as such swearing and cursing in public no matter how much they disagree with the ruling party.

"The people are losing respect and could not care less about them. Malaysia is a democratic country hence we should practice moderation," he said in a press conference after attending a gathering with Umno veterans at Kampung Kubang Bemban here today.

Selangor police chief Datuk Mazlan Mansor estimated the turnout about 4,000 for the rally held at Padang Timur, Petaling Jaya although the opposition was convinced that 100,000-strong crowd will participate.
