ALOR STAR: Pakatan Harapan will on Oct 25 table its own version of the 2018 Budget, which will reflect the gist of the opposition pact's economic manifesto for the 14th general election (GE14).
The tabling of Harapan’s budget will be held two days prior to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s tabling of the government’s 2018 Budget at Parliament on Oct 27.
Harapan president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the pact’s goal in tabling its own budget prior to the government’s version is to allow the public to make comparisons.
"I hope the public will make a wise comparison, (as to) which version of the budget is better for the people and the country," she said in her speech during the opening ceremony of the Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) national convention here today.
On a different note, Dr Wan Azizah, who is also PKR president, said that PAN has played a major role in the setting up of Harapan.
"Thanks to the sacrifices made by our friends in PAN, we stand here today. (PAN) has opened a new chapter and space for the opposition bloc," she said.
Dr Wan Azizah added that although PAN is only two years old, its leaders have vast experience in politics.
"Even PAN president Mohamad Sabu has (gained much experience) through his years in politics, including being detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA)," she said.
Mohamad, popularly known as Mat Sabu, was seen smiling as he held the hand of former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is now Harapan’s pro-tem chairman.
