Pas willing to accept polls defeat, will maintain its Islamic approach to politics.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas is ready to accept defeat at the polls, so long as it remains on course with its Islamic approach to politics.

In reiterating Pas’ independence but yet open to those friendly to its political medium, party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang disagreed with achieving victory merely for the sake of gaining the upper hand.

“Pas can continue to remain patient (in carrying its political approach) and accept defeat wholeheartedly, (as we do not want) to win without substance. Pas’s vision is expansive and not narrow. We will persevere with Islam (and Islamic political approach) from now and hereafter.”

Hadi outlined three main aspects in Pas’ “path” on the heels of its Islamic politics; the prime minister candidate would be picked based on his commitment to Islam, upholding justice for all regardless of race and religion and employing “prosperous and mature” politics to prevent slander and animosity.

“Islamic political approach is a concept in the Islamic leadership must be defended in order to uphold universal justice. There are vast networks (possible to be made) with all parties. But peaceful politics must be prioritised,” Hadi said in a statement.

He reminded detractors that Pas would not be influenced by those attempting to derail it from its way of politics.

“Pas will not be dragged by those who want to coerce, deceive, or provoke us into stepping away from our principles. Pas has experience in being on its own, within coalition government and cooperating with other parties of varied political approaches.”

“It is incumbent upon Pas to reject those who clearly oppose Islam, and we will cooperate with those who do not reject Islam. Today, Pas is free to determine how many seats and the constituencies it contests for, without being bogged down by instructions or tied down by other parties”, he said.
