Dr Mahathir failed at managing Pakatan Harapan, says Pas veep

KOTA BARU: Pas today said Pakatan Harapan’s failure to register itself as a formal coalition with the Registry of Societies (RoS) is proof of its leaders’ inability to manage the party well.

Pas vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah also trained his guns on Pakatan Harapan chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and accused the former premier of being a bad leader.

“Dr Mahathir has served as prime minister for 22 years and after serving the country a long time, he is supposed to be able to solve the problem (Pakatan Harapan’s pending registration). But, he has failed to do so.

“He also dreams of toppling the Barisan Nasional government and plans to change its administration. But, how can he achieve his dream if he failed to get support from the society?

“Therefore, I strongly believe that he has failed in managing (Pakatan Harapan) and he will not make a good leader for the country,” said the deputy Kelantan Menteri Besar on the sidelines of the state legislative assembly here today.

Mohd Amar said he was informed that Pakatan Harapan could not register with RoS because only 12 of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s supreme council members attended its extraordinary general meeting last year.

“For Pas, (the possibility) of Pakatan Harapan not contesting in the upcoming 14th General Election is good for us because there will be no three-cornered fight. It will only be Pas facing off against Umno in the election.”

RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim was quoted as saying last Friday that Ros did not recognise PPBM's extraordinary general meeting held on Nov 2 last year as only 12 of its supreme council members attended it.

She had also said PPBM could not use the term "Armada" to refer to its youth wing as it was not in the party's constitution.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today dismissed claims that he interfered in the application made by Pakatan Harapan to register itself with the RoS.
