KUALA LUMPUR: Wanita Umno has been given the mandate to lead the party's machinery for the upcoming general election.
Wanita Chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said the women's wing is the backbone of Umno and has the capability to reach those at the grassroots level.
"Last April, we were given a bigger role to lead the party into winning the 14th General Election by our Jalinan Rakyat Plus (JRPlus).
"This proves that Wanita are not merely bubbles in the ocean. Instead, we are a wave that will come together and stand strong as high as the mountains," she said in her policy speech at the Wanita Umno assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre, today.
Shahrizat also pledged the wing's commitment to ensure that the mandate is carried out to the best of its abilities. She also said Wanita Umno would work with the other wings and Barisan Nasional component parties to fulfill the aspiration of party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
"We will get the votes," she declared.
