Isham: I have been kicked out of the Umno Supreme Council WhatsApp group

KUALA LUMPUR: Embattled former Umno information chief Isham Jalil, who was reportedly sacked from the party, said he has yet to receive any notice over his termination.

Isham, however, confirmed that was removed from the Umno Supreme Council's WhatsApp group.

"I have yet to receive any letter (to inform him over his termination from Umno). All that I know is that I was removed from the Umno Supreme Council's WhatsApp group last night," Isham, who was the former Umno Supreme Council member, said.

Another party supreme council member, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, confirmed to an English news portal that Isham had been "terminated" from Umno.

When asked to confirm the matter, Ahmad, who is Deputy Finance Minister, told the New Straits Times to refer to the party secretary-general Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.

The NST has reached out to Asyraf to get his confirmation on the matter.

Rumours surrounding Isham's fate in Umno surfaced after he was absent from the party supreme council meeting last night.

According to sources attending the meeting, who requested anonymity, Isham was sacked with immediate effect.

Umno leaders, when met after the meeting last night, however, kept mum on the matter.

No official statement has been issued by Umno regarding Isham's sacking.

Earlier yesterday, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi challenged Isham to council meeting last night for the latter to air his grouses about Umno's cooperation with DAP in person.

Zahid, who is Deputy Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, had said that Isham did not attend the council's last three meetings.

Zahid issued the challenged after Isham accused Umno of being lackeys of DAP following BN's defeat during the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu.

Isham turned down the Zahid's challenge to attend the meeting when the former said that he was standing firm in his stance to not attend any meetings carried out by the party as long as it continues to work with DAP.
