'Sense of unity among Umno members strong despite efforts to sow disunity'

KUALA LUMPUR: The sense of unity among Umno members remains strong despite the best efforts of many to sow discord, says its secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor.

This, he said, is because Umno rejects individualistic struggles and ideologies, and is not a party for those who seek to satisfy personal needs.

"Umno is not only the guardian of the Malays, but also the defender of Malaysians with the representation of Barisan Nasional component parties.

"Planning for the future is done with the involvement of all quarters for initiatives like the National Transformation 2050, as well as the National Blue Ocean Strategy (NBOS).

"Insya-Allah, we will continue with the services. Umno’s efforts are not seasonal. It is our responsibility to ensure that every individual is protected and that the wellbeing of the people are taken care of ," he said his opening remarks at the 71st Umno General Assembly held at the Putra World Trade Centre.

Adnan said this year, a total of 2,718 delegates attended the assembly.

He said that as of Dec 6, Umno recorded a total of 3,644,295 members in 21,851 branches, with Sabah contributing the highest number of members. The Silam division and Kampung Batu Putih Darat branches have the most number of members within Umno.

A total of 77 delegates from Umno Overseas Clubs and 95 representatives from 20 political parties (16 countries) is also attending the assembly.
