Re-introduce Civics subject in schools

KUALA LUMPUR: An Umno delegate from Negri Sembilan has called for the government to re-introduce Civics subject into the education curriculum.

June Artisha Mohamed Nazari from Kuala Pilah said the subject can be taught as early as at the pre-school level.

“The syllabus should include explanation of the diversity of religions and customs as well as the importance of respecting each other.

“All these must be given a clear explanation, in order to build a society that has mutual respect and polite to one another,” she said while debating motion on religion and education during Umno General Assembly.

She said the subject should also should include lesson on ownership of shared public properties.

“Just see what happened a day after the Mass Rapid Transit Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line was opened to the public in July.

“Just few days in operations but some of its facilities were already vandalised by some irresponsible users.

“The same goes to with the Rawang Bypass (which was vandalised with graffiti).

“Therefore, we hope that civics subject can be re-introduced in order to build a society with good values and attitudes,” she said.
