Umno has never been more united, party leaders say

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno leaders yesterday said the party has never been more united with all issues that could have risked unity resolved.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the general assembly this time around saw all party members genuinely giving their utmost loyalty to the leadership.

“We saw how the party machinery at every level gave their undivided commitment to uphold unity,” Asyraf said when met at the last day of the 71st Umno general assembly here yesterday.

Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim, who is also Umno Supreme Council member, said the takeaway from the general assembly was that all internal issues faced by the party must be resolved before the drums of the general election are beaten.

Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said she hoped all members would be united and worked hard to face the coming general election.

Meanwhile another Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Reezal Merican Naina Merican said the party president, deputy, its vice-president along with all members had formed a consolidated force that was prepared to ensure Umno's victory.

"The president has voiced his confidence by looking at not only the delegates but also the spirit and the unity formed by the others who joined in the general assembly.

"We have a consolidated force that is ready to go down to fight in the most important battlefield which is the 14th General election," he said.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak had spurred Umno to work harder towards gaining victory in the general election.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said division leaders must now start thinking of resolving all issues in their constituencies.

"There is no choice now except to leave it to the people to vote. Their decisions will determine the hope and future of the country,” he said after the winding up speech by the president here yesterday.

Umno supreme council member Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said the winding-up speech given by Najib was no ordinary speech, but a call to party members to bring the spirit of victory back home to face the biggest battle Umno was likely to see in its history.
