'PKR with DAP, PAN out to topple Pas in Kelantan'

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR has been in cahoots with DAP and Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) in efforts to topple the Kelantan Pas government, a Pas ulama leader revealed.

In a statement today, Selangor Pas Ulama Council secretary Muhammad Najhan Halim did not elaborate on PKR’s move to topple Pas in Kelantan, but had outlined it as among examples of PKR's betrayal which rendered their political cooperation null and void.

Among the “betrayals” mentioned also include PKR’s alleged efforts against the tabling of amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355).

“PKR will not return as Pas' strategic partner. They are in a cohort of parties against Pas’ efforts to champion Islamic interests such as Act 355.

“PKR is also in cahoots with DAP and PAN to topple the Kelantan Pas government,” Najhan said.

Najhan said the oft-repeated statement concerning Pas-PKR ties was made again following confusion among some party members and supporters over Pas’ stand on several issues.

“Pas’ terms are very clear. We are open to negotiations with any party, provided that they respect Pas’ principles, they accept that Islam forms Pas’ basis of struggles and that the cooperation benefits Islam.”

Najhan said the decision to sever ties with PKR last May was based on continuous reviews made on the cooperation, which had been carried out since the leadership of the late Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

During its muktamar in April, Pas delegates approved the motion to sever ties with PKR, which the Islamic party had formed an exclusive pact with following the dissolution of Pakatan Rakyat opposition alliance.

“The annulment of the political cooperation means there is no longer political pact and official state or central-level negotiations between Pas and PKR ," Najhan said.
