Warisan leaders have no plans to meet Muhyiddin

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) leaders have no plans to meet with Pakatan Harapan deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during his visit to Sabah tomorrow.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said he was not aware of the former deputy prime minister's visit as reported by Free Malaysia Today.

Muhyiddin is expected to meet with Sabah Pakatan Harapan and to hear from the pact's local officials about preparations for the upcoming general election.

"It is understandable (Muhyiddin's visit to Sabah) but I'm not Pakatan.

"I'm Warisan... But of course as an old friend, if he (Muhyiddin) wants to meet, I've no problem. I am okay with my old friends and even my relatives.

"Just because I'm Warisan, it doesn't mean I will stop talking to them. It's a friendly gesture and there should be no political barrier," he told reporters during a press conference today.

The Semporna MP was responding to a question on if a meeting with Muhyiddin will materialise.

When asked about Warisan's stand on the possibility of working with Pakatan, Shafie said: "I would love for them to defeat Barisan Nasional in Kuala Lumpur but to join in the pact and sign an agreement, no."

Shafie said Warisan is focused on forming a new government for Sabah, stressing that the party will field candidates in areas they are confident of winning.

"Winning the upcoming election is crucial. It is not so much about the allocation of seats. It is where to contest and we will not simply put our candidates everywhere," he said.
