Tun M's meet with EU ambassadors merely to create perception: Irmohizam

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's meeting with a group of European Union ambassadors has been described as an attempt by the opposition to create perception on Barisan Nasional.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Dr Irmohizam Ibrahim said the meeting last Thursday, to so-called pressure the government to hold a fair election was also "illogical".

He said the meeting was not only meant to defame Barisan Nasional but also to undermine the Election Commission's role on the matter as well.

“Such excuse is illogical. When the opposition won some states in the 13th General Election, was that considered as unfair?

“They are only sensationalising the meeting by speculating that the government will change hands.

"This speculation was only to create pressure on the prime minister,” he said.

Irmohizam said the opposition had been using cheap propagandas that were not based on facts.

“I am confident that Malaysians will not be fooled by their lies and realise that only Barisan Nasional government can bring the country to a brighter future.” he said.

It was also reported that 14 ambassadors and three charges de affaires of the EU countries were present to meet several Pakatan Harapan representatives, including coalition secretary-general Saifuddin Abdullah, DAP chairman Tan Kok Wai and PKR vice-president Dr Xavier Jeyakumar.
