KOTA BARU: Pas has no problems taking part in the special corruption-free pledge for the general election organised by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Pas vice president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the party was willing to follow any decision related to the election, not only from MACC, but also the Election Commission (EC) if it feels that the move was right.
Apart from that, he said, Pas already has its own bai'ah (oath of loyalty) which the party had introduced a long time ago.
“The party's bai'ah is one of our efforts to ensure candidates who will be contesting for both general and state elections as well as by-elections are free from corruption,” he told reporters after the state executive council meeting today.
Amar said the bai’ah was required of all Pas candidates in all states, so Kelantan Pas would ensure its candidates took the oath as required.
“They must take the oath before nomination day arrives... this has been our practice since decades ago,” he said.
Asked about the Pas candidate list for the upcoming 14th General Election, he said it had yet to finalise the names.
“The list which had gone viral recently is not true and did not come from the state government,” he said.
Amar said Kelantan Pas had not set a quota limit of seats for female and male candidates as the priority was more to “those who are capable of taking up the responsibility”.
“We are looking for winnable candidates whom we are confident can represent Pas in the next general election,” he said.
Pas is the only opposition party to have lauded the move so far.
