Pakatan goes to court over application status

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has gone to court to compel the Registrar of Societies (RoS) to explain the status of the opposition pact's official registration.

Its chief secretary Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah and four others filed an application for leave to initiate judicial review at the Kuala Lumpur High Court's registry today.

The other co-applicants are DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) deputy secretary Abang Ahmad Kerdee Abang Masagus, and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) secretary-general Datuk Shahruddin Md Salleh.

The applicants' lawyer Gobind Singh Deo said RoS has a legal duty to respond to PH's query on the status of the application to register the opposition pact.

He added that the application should not be held up since PH component parties - DAP and PPBM - had already resolved their issues.

Gobind was referring to allegation on the legitimacy of DAP's central executive committee (CEC) and PPBM's annual general meeting (AGM).
