Pakatan's fuel subsidy plan for cars under 1300cc unfair, says Hamzah

BATU KURAU: There will be a lot of problems if Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) plan to provide a fuel subsidy for cars with engines under 1300cc is implemented, said Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

“It is unfair to introduce a fuel subsidy. Those who have several cars at home will benefit more,” said the Umno supreme council member.

“I don’t want to say how but I believe we know what will happen. You drive your car (to the petrol station) in the morning and in the evening, you go again. This is troublesome.

“Those who live in the villages and don’t own cars won’t benefit from the subsidy.

“What is important for us (Barisan Nasional) is fairness. When we introduce a subsidy, it must be fair to others,” said Hamzah was commenting on the PH manifesto after launching the Bizfair Programme, which organised by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) at Batu Kurau Square here today.

Hamzah said programmes such as 1Malaysia People’s Aid (BR1M) and subsidised healthcare were fair to all Malaysians.

“Malaysians only need to pay RM1 to enjoy healthcare services at government hospitals. This is fair to all.

“When BN makes promises, we fulfil them. I believe the opposition coalition should be known as fake Pakatan Harapan,” said Hamzah.

PH’s manifesto for the 14th General Election has five main thrusts – reduce the public’s burden, reform the nation’s administrative institutions and politics, reshape the nation’s economy in a fair and just manner, reinstate the rights and status of Sabah and Sarawak as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and build an inclusive, moderate and bright Malaysia in the international arena.

The manifesto’s five commitments are to modernise Felda and return it to its former glory; ensure equitable rights, fairness and harmony for the Indian community; take care of the welfare, health and rights of women; develop the talents of youth and create opportunities for them; as well as acknowledge the contributions and sacrifices of senior citizens.

The manifesto also pledges 10 reforms in five years if PH forms the next government, including limiting the tenures of the prime minister and mentris besar to two terms.
