Absence of state assemblymen frustrates Telok Kemang, Chennah folk

SEREMBAN: State assemblymen’s lack of concern and failure to go down to the ground are among the frequent complaints of people in the Telok Kemang parliamentary and Chennah state seats.

Checks by the New Straits Times Press in Telok Kemang, Port Dickson, showed that they were dissatisfied and regretted voting in the PKR candidate, who they claimed had failed to serve them for the past 10 years.

V. Marimuthu, 61, from Taman Negeri here, said he was frustrated that the PKR state assemblyman rarely went down to the ground to check on people’s problems, reflecting his lack of concern for the constituents.

“Although the state is ruled by Barisan Nasional, the state assemblyman should not ignore the people who had voted him in,” he said.

“For the past 10 years, nothing has been done. The opposition only appears when the election is approaching.

“I am done with voting for them. I have realised my mistake for voting in the wrong candidate.”

Ahmad Rosli, 49, from Chuah, said he would not fall for the opposition’s ploy again.

He said they had failed to resolve problems in the area.

“We hope BN can recapture the Telok Kemang parliamentary seat from the opposition. We are tired of being neglected. They only show up when the election is around the corner, and vanish soon after.”

The sentiment was echoed by constituents in Chennah, Jelebu. They also expressed their dissatisfaction over their DAP state assemblyman’s absence.

Rohaya Abdul, 59, said the assemblyman should know the problems of the people in the area.

“Their (assemblymen) appearance is seasonal. We only see them when there’s an election.

“And, they will ask us to vote for them. After that, they are nowhere to be seen.

“We hope BN will win. We want the state government to build more affordable homes and develop this area, just like other areas in the state,” she said.

Another resident, Rosmadi Arif, 46, said people had voted in the DAP assemblyman not because they had wanted the opposition to win, but due to dissatisfaction over the BN candidate.

“BN lost in Chennah in the last general election not because the DAP candidate was strong, but because there were protest votes here because MCA had fielded a candidate who was not a local, and he was rejected by the people.

“However, after the DAP candidate won, we did not see him any more. We were told that he spent a lot of time in Seremban than in this area.

“We are frustrated because he had failed to bring changes to this area and the people, although he had the opportunity,” he said.
