(Update) Hadi won't defend Rhu Rendang state seat, says Pas sec-gen

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang will not defend the Rhu Rendang state seat and will only contest a parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election (GE14).

Pas secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed this after a press conference at the party headquarters at Jalan Raja Laut on Wednesday.

He said Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man would also only contest a parliamentary seat.

“We have finalised our list of GE14 candidates. We will contest in no less than 160 seats, and are now finalising seats involving component parties in Gagasan Sejahtera,” he said.

Earlier during the press conference, Takiyuddin said Pas will announce the finalised list of GE14 candidates simultaneously nationwide on Thursday night.

He said that the candidates would come not only from Pas but would also include Parti Ikatan Bangsa Malaysia (Ikatan) and the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Front (Berjasa).

“The Pas state commissioners will make the announcement in their respective states except Pahang, where (Datuk) Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man would make the announcement,” he said.

He however said that this will not include Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan, where the announcement would be made on another date.

He said that Sarawak and Sabah would make the announcement on April 21 and 22, respectively, while Kelantan would make their announce on April 25.

Takiyuddin said Kelantan Pas had chosen the April 25 date for the announcement as they are still finalising the list.

“We will contest under the name of Gagasan Sejahtera, where Ikatan and Berjasa will use the Pas logo.

“Others (political parties friendly to Gagasan Sejahtera) will use their own (party) logo,” said Takiyuddin.

He said that all candidates of Gagasan Sejahtera will sign the bai’ah pledge for GE14. However, he said the pledge will not contain the clause for “talak tiga” (Islamic divorce).

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin denied allegations that Pas received RM90 million from Umno.

“We have never received any contributions from Umno,” he stressed, adding that Pas depends on membership fees and contributions, among others, for its funding.
