PAS to contest six Parliament and 18 state seats in Penang

KEPALA BATAS: Pas Penang will contest in six parliamentary and 18 state seats in the coming 14th general election.

The announcement was made by state Pas commissioner Fauzi Mohd Yusof at the party’s base in Pongsu Seribu here tonight.

Fauzi said all candidates were referred to the Ulama Syura Council before they were nominated to be fielded.

“The first criteria for one to be nominated is he/she is free from any major sins. They will then be vetted before a final decision is made.

“All our candidates are also required to take a ‘ba’iah’ (oath of allegiance),” he said.

Fauzi said the majority of the party’s candidates are locals, educated with professional background.

Fauzi said he had also been specially assigned by the party’s top leadership to contest the Permatang Pasir state seat, currently held by incumbent Datuk Salleh Man, the sole Pas assemblyman in the previous state assembly.

Among the parliamentary seats that Pas will contest includes Kepala Batas, Tasek Gelugor, Permatang Pauh, Nibong Tebal, Bayan Baru and Balik Pulau.
