Azmin: 'What crisis?'

PERMATANG PAUH: PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has made light of an alleged crisis said to be brewing in the party over the 14th General Election candidate list.

Stressing that discussion is still ongoing, he said no decision has been made on the candidate list yet.

He however said the majority of the candidates to be fielded in the election have been agreed by a selection panel.

The panel comprise the party president, deputy president, election director, Women’s chief, Youth chief and PKR vice-presidents Tian Chua and Xavier Jeyakumar.

“I don’t want to speculate (about the alleged crisis). Let us settle this issue.

“All I can say is that the selection panel has met several times to discuss, and we have an almost completed the candidate list.

“I believe that in less than 48 hours, we will announce the full list of our candidates,” he told newsmen today when asked to comment on the alleged crisis brewing in the party.

It was reported that at least eight names proposed by Azmin had been axed by party president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

Asked if it the report was true, Azmin said he does not respond to rumours.

“The process (candidates selection) in PKR is very transparent.

“Also, I did not submit any list. The candidate list we have is from the state and the state got it from the respective divisions.

“In this case, the division will submit the proposed candidate list to the state and the state will evaluate and submit it to the selection panel.

“So, I do not have any list. It is only the party’s list,” he added.

Asked on whether there was any truth to Tian Chua resigning from the party, Azmin said he has no such knowledge.

Earlier, when Azmin was invited on stage to address the people of Permatang Pauh, Dr Wan Azizah made a quick exit.

Confronted on the alleged crisis, she said: “We have a vetting process. We will conduct the final vetting with inputs from the PKR de facto leader.

“I am on my way back to sign the appointment letters,” she added.

Also present was PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
