Nurul Izzah to contest in Permatang Pauh?

SEBERANG JAYA: Rumours have abounded that Nurul Izzah Anwar would be fielded in Permatang Pauh.

The PKR vice-president, however, was non-committal about the rumour.

All she would say was that she accepted any decision made by the party on her candidacy for the 14th general election.

“We wait for the announcement of candidates. I accept any decision made by the party. Even if I know, I am not allowed to let you know, although I want to. I hope this is respected,” she said after the launching of the PKR Permatang Pauh election machinery this afternoon.

Several media had reported that Nurul Izzah would be contesting in Permatang Pauh in the coming election while incumbent, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, would be fielded in a parliamentary seat in the Klang Valley.

It is learnt that the opposition is expected to announce all its candidates in an official function in Sungai Besar, Selangor, tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah said she was open to an announcement earlier in the day on Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin’s candidacy in the coming election.

“I accept the announcement but I hope the people of Lembah Pantai will continue to remain with the big PKR family,” he said.

In the 13th general election, Nurul Izzah, the two-term Lembah Pantai member of parliament won the seat against Raja Nong Chik with a 1,847 vote-majority.

Nurul Izzah’s former political secretary Fahmi Fadzil is expected to be fielded in Lembah Pantai.
