Wangsa Maju's Shafie Abdullah back in charge of BN election machinery

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafie Abdullah is back in action, leading the charge for the Wangsa Maju election machinery to help Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Yew Teong Look.

Shafie announced this when launching the Wangsa Maju division Pertubuhan Nadi Rakyat Malaysia operations room for the 14th general election.

This was the Umno Wangsa Maju division chief’s first appearance after taking a two-week break from campaigning.

This put an end to a viral rumour that claimed that Federal Territories Umno secretary Datuk Seri Syed Ali Alhabshee had been placed in charge of the election machinery for the Wangsa Maju parliamentary constituency for BN.

Shafie said he receive a letter of appointment stating that he would be running the election machinery for Wangsa Maju for the duration of GE14.

“Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has contacted Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to tell him to hand over the lead for the election machinery for Wangsa Maju to me. After a two-week break, this is the first programme in which I have appeared in support of BN.

“Even though I have not been nominated as a candidate, I want the residents to know that I will continue to serve the people here. The prime minister asked me to lead the election machinery for GE14 (in Wangsa Maju) so that the people here do not feel left out,” he said.

Commenting on the possibility of a three-cornered fight in Wangsa Maju, Shafie said based on the current scenario, BN could expect to face a tough fight.

However, he said BN still had a good chance of winning the seat.

As such, said Shafie, the most important thing was for the BN candidate and the machinery to waste no time in going down to the ground to meet voters.
