Most orderly nomination day ever, says Zahid

BAGAN DATUK: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described nomination day today as the most orderly, compared with previous general elections.

He said, even though Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan supporters were filled with excitement and enthusiasm, the democratic process took place harmoniously.

“This shows that our society can celebrate our differences without being too emotional,” he told a press conference at SM Sains Bagan Datuk here today.

“So far, there have not been any reports of chaos. This shows that the 14th General Election is taking place in an orderly manner.”

Zahid who is also home minister said 75,000 policemen had been tasked to maintain order at 222 nomination centres nationwide.

He said more police officers would be on duty in the run-up to polling day on May 9.

“We are monitoring rural areas in Sabah and Sarawak, as well as urban areas with more than 10,000 voters to ensure that there are no untoward incidents at these places,” he added.
