Why is Guan Eng 'hiding' in Bagan, asks MCA

BUTTERWORTH: MCA today chided DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng for ‘hiding’ in the Bagan parliamentary constituency, a DAP stronghold.

Penang MCA Youth chief Datuk Michael Lee Beng Seng said DAP has been sending its senior leaders to contest against their peers from Barisan Nasional (BN).

Lee said it was disappointing that Lim had chosen to play safe while sending his ‘generals’ to go on do-or-die missions.

He said it was DAP’s strategy to wipe out MCA and Gerakan candidates in the 14th General Election (GE14).

“However, Lim as the party secretary-general opted to remain in Bagan, a DAP fortress.

“He shouldn’t be contesting against a political lightweight like me,” Lee told reporters today.

The 37-year-old, who will take on Lim in GE14, noted that his political experience would hardly match up to the Chief Minister.

DAP Johor chairman and incumbent Kluang Member of Parliament Liew Chin Tong would contest the Ayer Hitam parliamentary seat, which is currently held by MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

In Teluk Intan, Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming would take on Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

Lee noted that BN would not work with DAP at the federal level even if the latter has the most number of Chinese MPs.

“The Chinese community will end up being on the losing end if they did not support MCA and Gerakan,” he added.
