MCA asks PM to deal with Teresa Kok for constantly asking party to leave unity govt

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to confront DAP vice chairman Teresa Kok for repeatedly asking MCA to withdraw from the unity government.

Federal Territory MCA deputy chairman Tan Kok Eng pointed out that Kok has previously made public demands for MCA to withdraw from the unity government, with the first instance occurring on Aug 27, last year.

He also mentioned that the DAP Socialist Youth (Dapsy) national chief Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen also made similar demand for MCA to withdraw from the unity government.

"MCA has consistently adhered and upheld the royal decree by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and has never flinched in our support for the unity government helmed by Anwar.

"On several occasions, we have publicly declared that our party abides by our support pledge until the next general elections.

"Despite public demands by DAP to MCA, our party has always maintained a calm and gracious demeanour as we uphold national political stability and respect for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's decree," he said in a statement.

Tan said DAP leaders display hypocrisy by not appreciating MCA's efforts to support the unity government and launching provocative moves against MCA, undermining stability behind the Prime Minister's back.

"Historically, no leader has publicly demanded allies to join rival coalitions since Malaya gained independence, making Kok the first to do so on behalf of DAP.

"Even more frustrating is that Kok descended to distorting and hollow fallacies in her statement to slander MCA."

He said Kok's actions indicate malicious intent, aiming to provoke MCA into leaving the unity government, potentially leading to the downfall of the Malaysia Madani government.

"DAP has endlessly twisted facts to create the illusion that MCA hopes to form a government with Pas.

"In contrast, DAP was in full cooperation with Pas three times. It would come as a no-brainer if a fourth or fifth cooperation is forthcoming in the future."

"Given that many of the DAP leaders' actions in recent months have undermined the stability of the unity government, we implore the PM to take the appropriate action," he added.
