EC will not comment further on Rantau incident

PUTRAJAYA: Election Commission (EC) has refused to comment further on issues involving a candidate being denied entry into nomination centre in Rantau.

Its chairman Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah said EC would reserve its comment until it obtained a complete report and police complete their investigations into the case.

"EC is aware that there are objections from those who were not allowed to enter the nomination centre to submit their forms during nomination day in Rantau.

“This was because they had no passes issued by the EC. It is understood that they have lodged a police report on this case.

“Therefore, it is needless for EC to give any comment on this until we receive full report and the police conduct its investigation,” he said, adding it was up to the involved parties to use legal channels to fight their case.

Hashim also urged the public not to make any speculation on the case as it was still under police investigation.

On Saturday, PKR’s Dr S. Streram as well as his proposer and seconder, were not allowed to enter the nomination centre to submit their forms to contest in Rantau seat as they did not have EC passes.

Following this, Rantau incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan won unopposed.
