Don't try to cheat, says EC

MELAKA: The Election Commission (EC) will not hesitate to initiate strict action against individuals caught attempting to cheat by voting twice during tomorrow's early voting and Wednesday's voting day.

EC Deputy Chairman Tan Sri Othman Mahmood however pointed out that cheating is difficult as each citizen only has one MyKad and checking will be done thoroughly.

"We (EC) will check each individual's documents thoroughly on both voting days to avoid any issues, I am confident voters are wise enough to cast their votes sensibly.

"Apart from that, we will ensure that ballot boxes placed at the stations are empty and monitored closely by election workers to ensure a transparent result," he said.

Othman said this after observing preparations for early voting at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjung Kling hall, here, today.

There will be 240 polling centres in Melaka, involving 938 polling stations, as Malaysians get ready to cast their votes for the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

However only 31 centres will be open for tomorrow's early voting.

Othman also advised those who will be voting tomorrow to come out early to cast their votes due to unpredictable weather.

Early voting will take place nationwide from 8am to 5pm involving 300,255 voters.
