Sabahans, Sarawakians want mature politics

SEPANGGAR: The DAP-led Opposition coalition will not be able to 'break' Barisan Nasional's (BN) 'fixed deposit' in Sabah and Sarawak because the rakyat in both states reject politics based on accusations and instigation.

Sabah BN secretary Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Sabahans and Sarawakians want mature politics that lead to development and this is something BN is already doing.

"They (Opposition) are not talking about development policies and the future of the country, what they have are ceramah sessions filled with accusations against the government, instigation and insults," he said.

"This is unhealthy and people in Sabah surely reject this brand of politics," he told reporters after observing the early voting process at the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) base in Kota Kinabalu, here, today.

At a talk in Melaka last night, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had reportedly said that the Opposition can form a government after the 14th General Election (GE14) if they can fulfill three conditions, one of it is to break BN's 'fixed deposit' in Sabah and Sarawak.

Lim was reported to have claimed that the uprising of voters in Sabah is apparent as they are showing stronger support to the 'ubah' (change) idea.

Commenting further, Abdul Rahman who is also BN's Sepanggar parliamentary candidate, said the challenge from the Opposition in Sabah is greater this time around as compared to the last GE, but noted that Parti Warisan Sabah's (Warisan) leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal is not the ideal candidate to champion the 'ubah' slogan.

Abdul Rahman said he has more respect for Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan eventhough they are not on the same page, politically speaking.

"All Shafie wants is to be the Chief Minister," he said.

When asked to comment on Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz appearing at the Opposition talk in Melaka last night, Abdul Rahman said the former Umno Wanita chief is not willing to accept reality.

"That is the disease in this country, eventhough they have retired, they can't face facts. They (Opposition) accused our Prime Minister but they too are riddled with corruption scandals, some have even been caught and charged (in court)," he added.

Speaking to reporters on his campaign in Sepanggar, he said the area is still a BN stronghold as the party has realistic plans for the people here.
