KDM's president bullish about party's acceptance among Sabahans

KOTA KINABALU: Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) will become a party that resonates with the local people in Sabah, said its president Datuk Peter Anthony.

Peter is confidence that the party will be embraced by all segments of society, regardless of age, especially in the Kadazan, Dusun and Murut areas.

The Melalap assemblyman highlighted that the party's strength, particularly in rural areas, is becoming increasingly apparent, notably in the regions of Tenom and Kota Marudu.

"In Kota Marudu, our deputy president, Datuk Wetrom Bahanda, defeated the president of PBS (Parti Bersatu Sabah).

"I am equally confident that similar strength will be demonstrated in other areas during the upcoming PRN," he said in a release following the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) held yesterday.

Wetrom serves as the assemblyman for Bandau and the member of parliament for Kota Marudu.

Peter disclosed that the party is currently directing its efforts toward preparing for the upcoming state elections.

He added that, with a blend of new and existing leaders, KDM is poised to shine in the impending elections.

"Therefore, it is crucial for us to be well-prepared from this point onward, engage with the grassroots, and connect with the people," he said.

Meanwhile, KDM's information chief Dr Oswald Aisat Igau reported that the EGM for the 2023-2026 supreme council election session proceeded smoothly.

Peter was unanimously reelected as the president, while Wetrom successfully defended his position without being contested by others.

"The leaders of the party's supreme council have complete confidence in the leadership duo of these two new political figures to guide the KDM party in facing the potential upcoming state elections.

"Both of these political figures are immensely popular among the people of Sabah and have a promising future in securing the state seats they will contest.

"KDM is fortunate to have a visionary leadership team that is forward-thinking, young, and outstanding at both state and federal levels," he said.
