DAP has enough talent in the new cabinet: Kit Siang

KUALA LUMPUR: When Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced the first phase of his cabinet members nomination, conspicously missing from the list was veteran DAP leader, Lim Kit Siang.

However, a China Press report today quoted him as saying that he had declined any position in the new Cabinet.

"The DAP has enough talent in the new cabinet (Cabinet) queue," he said after attending an appreciation programme in Skudai, Johor.

Lim said that despite declining to be named as a minister, Lim assured that he will continue to push for reforms to create a better Malaysia.

Thus far, the DAP has four representatives in the initial line-up of 13 ministers. They are DAP Secretary, Lim Guan Eng, at the Ministry of Finance; Anthony Loke (Ministry of Transport); Gobind Singh Deo (Ministry of Communication and Multimedia) and M Kulasegaran (Ministry of Human Resources).

Dr Mahathir earlier announced that the initial Cabinet involving major ministries and would be followed by other ministries.

Meanwhile, asked on the police search operation involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Lim said police had to review the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

"The SOP should cover everyone," he said.
