PAN yet to discuss RUU355 (NSTTV)

TASEK GELUGOR: Parti Amanah Negara (PAN) has yet to decide on its stance with regard to PAS’ private member’s bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, better known as RUU355, to be tabled in Parliament.

Its president Mohamad Sabu said that the matter would be discussed with the party leaders in a meeting to be held this Tuesday.

He said that PAN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) component parties were focused on efforts to improve the country’s economy and wipe out corruption.

“We will discuss in the meeting, we have to take into account the views of experts in religious studies.

“However our priority now is to battle corruption because what has been uncovered is shocking,” he said when met at a buka puasa event with residents of Kampung Guar Petai, here, today.

Mohamad, or Mat Sabu was commenting on a statement made by PAS vice president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah who urged PAN MPs who were formerly PAS leaders, to fulfill their promise to allow RUU355 to be tabled in Parliament.

Mohd Amar said PAN leaders had earlier remarked that they needed to form a government first, with regard to the Pakatan Harapan (coalition) winning in the 14th General Election (GE14), before they would be allowed to voice out their views on the matter.

Last April, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia fixed for the RUU355 debate to be held in the next Dewan Rakyat session in July.
