Anwar's Raya message to all: I have rested enough in prison... now it's time to work

KUALA LUMPUR: ‘Papa has been resting long enough in prison. Now, it’s time to work.’

That was the message from Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a short video for Hari Raya Aidilfitri that he and his family made and uploaded on his Facebook page.

He said this when his daughter, Nurul Nuha, asked him whether he wanted to rest after being released from prison.

The 30-second video also showed Anwar telling Nurul Nuha that they could not waste the support of the rakyat by resting and feeling comfortable.

“People are waiting, people have given us the mandate. If we do not go ahead (with our plans), then their support is wasted.

“If we only think about our comfort, then it is no different from the previous regime. So we have to work. The goal is to lessen the burden of the rakyat. The goal is to make democracy more meaningful for the rakyat.

“If not, then there is no meaning (to it all) other than our freedom and a new administration. There is only a short distance left to go, God willing,” he says as he kisses his daughter’s forehead in the video.

Anwar’s wife, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ibrahim, then appears and says that Pakatan Harapan’s victory did not mean that their struggle would now be easier.

“We have to do it all (fulfil the pledges made by PH). Why? We want to make the victory meaningful and with the help of the rakyat, we can do it.”

Anwar then said: “As we have been doing all along, we will do this together. Through thick or thin.”

The trio then hug, with the next scene showing Anwar’s entire family having dinner together, before a Raya message, including the words “continue the struggle”, for all Malaysians appears.
