Md Alwi Che Ahmad is Kelantan state assembly opposition leader

KOTA BARU: Kok Lanas State Assemblyman and Kelantan Umno information chief, Datuk Md Alwi Che Ahmad has been appointed as the opposition leader for the Kelantan State Legislative Assembly.

Kelantan Umno Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, who is also Air Lanas assemblyman said Md Alwi was selected based on his extensive experience, apart from being a senior Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman in the state assembly.

“Based on his vast experience, character, religious education, professional education and others, we believe that he is qualified to become an opposition leader who can provide constructive ideas to reprimand the state government,” Mustapa told reporters after the swearing-in ceremony of the Kelantan assemblymen at the Kota Darul Naim Complex, here, today.

All 45 state assemblymen, comprising 37 from PAS and eight from BN took their oath of office at the ceremony.

The Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition has no representation in the Kelantan state assembly.

Commenting on BN’s participation in debates in the current Kelantan state assembly, he said they would play a more effective role by conducting research on issues and presenting facts.

Mustapa also welcomed and thanked the state government which had expressed its willingness to channel allocation to the opposition assemblymen for this term. — Bernama
