Sg Kandis by-election: Pas members, supporters await signal from top

SHAH ALAM: Pas' top leaders, including its spiritual adviser Hashim Jasin, are expected to arrive in Sungai Kandis for a special meeting with party members today

He is scheduled to hold a talk after the Maghrib prayer at Surau Telok Menegon near here.

Former Kampung Jawa village head Ismail Abdullah said he believed the Pas leaders' visit to Sungai Kandis would clear the air as to which candidates party members and supporters should vote for.

“This evening's ceramah will be used to gauge on who we should pick on polling day.” said the Pas supporter.

Pas in a recent statement had said that party members are free to vote for any candidates of their choice in the by-election as the party has no plan to field anyone for the seat.

However, several top party leaders including vice-president Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah and central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz took the opportunity to encourage party members to vote Barisan Nasional.

Kota Raja Pas committee member Saiful Bahri said he hoped the ceramah tonight would clarify any confusion regarding the matter.

Regradless of the decision, he said there was a possibility that voters’ turnout will be lower than the 14th General Election.

“I feel that many (Pas) party members will not go out to vote this time around.

“There are other factors. Pas members are not be ready to vote for either PKR or BN. Other than that, many voters who are staying outside Sungai Kandis may not even return to cast their vote.

“Voters are not really interested in this by-election. The atmosphere is not there.”

Tonight's ceramah, titled “Bangkit Pas”, is expected to be held at its Kota Raja Bukit Naga office in Seksyen 32 with the main speech delivered by party’s deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Selangor Pas commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi is also expected to attend.
