PKR has 'very great chance' in retaining Sg Kandis: Mat Sabu

KLANG: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is confident that PKR will win big in the Sungai Kandis by-election on Aug 4.

Its president Mohamad Sabu said PKR has a “very great chance” in retaining the Sungai Kandis state assembly seat despite Pas’ leadership lending their support to Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam.

“I believe they (Sungai Kandis voters, including Pas supporters) will vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) this time because they also realise that the state and Federal government is under PH.

“So, we will win handsomely,” said the Defence Minister during a press conference at Lengkungan Sri Sarawak 23, Taman Sri Andalas, here today.

Mohamad, who is also Kota Raja parliamentarian, was in Klang today to lend his support to the PKR candidate, Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

“I apologise (for not coming to the ground earlier with the PKR candidate) since I was in England for a week for working visit. I attended meetings with the United Kingdom Defence team.

“I was also there to invite big companies to attend the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (Lima) exhibition in Langkawi, an event held once in two years,” he said.

The next Lima will be held in 2019. The New Straits Times had previously reported that the Lima 2019 was expected to be 20 per cent bigger than the 2017 exhibition, and would see a 50-50 division of the aerospace segment between the commercial and defence industries.

Since its inception in 1991, Lima has been under the purview of the Defence Ministry.

On another matter, Mohamad said a committee, which previously worked on the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) programme, is currently studying the possibility of having National Service 2.0, a programme similar to that of in Singapore.

“The committee is studying the National Service programme to see if it needs to be continued or otherwise. This is not included in the 100 days (promise by Pakatan Harapan), he said in jest.
