Zahid invites Pas to attend Umno AGM

KUALA NERUS: Umno has extended an invitation to Pas to attend the party’s annual general assembly on Sept 30, said its president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Zahid said the move is to reciprocate Pas’ open invitation for Umno leaders to attend its 64th Muktamar (general assembly) this weekend.

He also said his party felt magnanimous after being invited to attend Pas’ muktamar.

“We greatly appreciate this gesture by Pas. Therefore, I wish to return the favour by inviting the Pas leadership, led by Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, to attend our own general assembly.

“Pas’ invitation to Umno has created history in Malaysia’s political landscape even though both parties have clashed at the grassroots level for the past six decades.

“Nevertheless, in the spirit of Islamic and Malay togetherness and struggles, we feel grateful to extend each other an invite,” Zahid told newsmen before meeting the Terengganu Umno leadership at the TH Hotel in Gong Badak.

Present were Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob.

Zahid had earlier attended the official opening of Pas’ 64th annual muktamar at the Gong Badak indoor stadium.

Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk member of parliament, said he was confident that the Umno wings - Youth, Wanita and Puteri - would also invite their Pas counterparts to attend their respective AGMs.
