PKR bust-up: Let's wait for police probe first, says Saifuddin

KULIM: PKR will await for the police to complete its investigation into the fracas involving PKR members at the party’s division elections before deciding on whether any members had breached its disciplinary codes.

PKR secretary-general, Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the case is still under police investigation and they are awaiting a full report.

He said it would not be suitable for the party to take action against any members now as the police have yet to wrap up their probe.

“If it involves any disciplinary issues, then the party’s disciplinary committee will take further action.

“To date, the party has been told that some members have been detained by the police. So let the process run its course first,” he said.

Saifuddin was speaking to reporters after officiating the Rural Education Tour and Mara Tuition 2018 programme at the Dewan Kolej MARA Kulim, here on Monday.

Also present were MARA Kedah chairman Yahya Sani and Celcom Axiata Bhd Chief Corporate Officer Zuraida Jamaluddin.

Saifuddin was commenting on a statement by PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who said the party would sack any members found to have been involved in fights.

Saifuddin said, to his understanding, Anwar meant that the disciplinary committee can take the appropriate action of there are clear-cut breaches of discipline.

Commenting on the ruckus which occurred in several states during the party’s election over the weekend, Saifuddin said improvements will be made to the process in the next election proceedings.

“We will be discussing many possible improvements tomorrow night when the weekly political bureau meeting takes place.

“The Central Election Committee will provide its report on the incidents. Further measures will be done to ensure that the voting process in other states the following week will run smoothly.

“I will study the full report first from the committee and from there, we will know the exact cause of the commotion,” he said.

He also urged the party’s Kedah and Penang members to raise any dissatisfaction with the committee, as their feedback would then be channelled to the political bureau.
