KUALA LUMPUR: Rafizi Ramli, who is gunning for the PKR deputy presidency, defeated Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali in the Putrajaya PKR division party election.
The results were announced in PKR’s 2018 election website at 6.13pm on Sunday.
Rafizi secured 122 votes compared to Azmin, who garnered 89 votes.
Meanwhile, Onn Abu Bakar defended the Putrajaya division chief position, obtaining 144 votes while his challenger, Mohd Firdaus Sobri, only managed 63 votes.
A total of 210 Putrajaya PKR members cast their votes today from a totak of 523 registered voters in the division.
Meanwhile, a commotion broke out at the PKR’s Lembah Pantai elections, said to be triggered by rival factions jostling for potential voters,
The three-minute incident saw several members shoving each other with heated exchanges taking place.
The incident was swiftly brought to a halt by staff members as well as the police.
One vote canvasser, who only wished to be known as Fariza, said she had approached a voter when she was stopped by doing so by someone from a rival camp.
She claimed that the man, who was wearing a T-shirt bearing the image of PKR president-elect Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, had spoken to her rudely and with unsavoury words, which led to her retaliating.
“I was approaching a voter when the man barged in and told me off,” she claimed.
Another vote canvasser, who was also caught up in the commotion, claimed that a woman had tried to ‘steal’ one of his voters.
“They wanted to steal our voters and lure them into the opposing camp. They can’t do that,” he claimed.
Polling in 13 divisions of PKR in the Federal Territories (FT) began at 10am Sunday involving 34, 892 members.
The 13 divisions are Kepong, Batu, Wangsa Maju, Segambut, Setiawangsa, Titiwangsa, Bukit Bintang, Lembah Pantai, Seputeh, Cheras, Bandar Tun Razak, Labuan and Putrajaya.
The FT is the sixth state to hold the election using the e-voting system after Johor, Penang, Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
All polling centres closed at 5pm.
