PKR must forge stronger bonds for the challenges of the future: Rafizi

SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy-president Rafizi Ramli emphasised the need to handle complexities of current and future challenges by fostering stronger unity within the party.

"As we mark our 25th anniversary, it's time for us to review and evaluate ways to form stronger bonds within the party to navigate the next 20 to 50 years.

"Many parties fail to strengthen themselves while in power despite the complexity of challenges, leading to their gradual decline over time," he said in his speech at the PKR convention, held in conjunction with its 25th anniversary celebration today.

Citing Kodak, Rafizi pointed out its past dominance in the world market for film, emphasising that despite early awareness of digital technology, the company underestimated its impact, ultimately leading to its downfall.

"Hence, there is a need for PKR, as a mass movement, to adapt to the evolving landscape, particularly as it reaches its 25th this year, facing even greater challenges."

Rafizi said other parties may commemorate their silver or golden jubilees, the party's focus remains on preparing for the 16th General Election (GE16).

"PKR's preparations for GE16 officially commence today, coinciding with this convention."

In his speech, Rafizi also emphasised that the work is never-ending for PKR.

"Back then, during the reformation period, we used to think that our job was done when we successfully changed the government and (Datuk Seri) Anwar (Ibrahim) became the prime minister.

"Unfortunately, it is not. Our job is never done. This is because we are a reformation party. We cannot continue with what was practiced by those before us."
