Azmin: Anwar's victory in Port Dickson was unique

PETALING JAYA: PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s victory in the Port Dickson by-election was unique as it received undivided support from all races within the constituency.

Party deputy president said the victory also proved that Pakatan Harapan (PH) government continued to receive the backing from Malaysians.

“I feel grateful and would like to thank the voters in Port Dickson for their continuous supports to the PH government and the leadership of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as the prime minister.

“The victory is unique as we managed to gain undivided supports from all races in Port Dickson.

“(And) this shows a new support trend and people’s confidence in PH,” he said.

Azmin told this to reporters after attending Eco World Foundation Appreciation Luncheon today.

Present at the event were the foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye, EcoWorld Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Liew Kee Sin, president and chief executive officer Datuk Chang Khim Wah and executive director Datuk Voon Tin Yow.

On Saturday, Anwar won the seaside parliamentary seat with a 23,560 vote majority over Pas candidate, Lt Col (Rtd) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar.

Anwar polled 31,106 votes, while Nazari came in second, with 7,456 votes.

All five independent candidates in the by-election lost their deposits, including Port Dickson native and former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Tan Sri Isa Samad. He polled 4,230 votes.

Independent candidates Stevie Chan polled 337 votes, followed by Lau Seck Yan (214), Kan Chee Yuen (154) and Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan (82).

Anwar will be sworn in as Port Dickson’s Member of Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.
