PKR Sarawak to enter interiors to explain e-voting system

KUCHING: The PKR Sarawak leadership will travel to the interiors of the state to explain to grassroots members the e-voting system which will be used in the state level party elections on Nov 10.

State PKR election committee deputy chairman Baharuddin Mohsen said, even though many people had questioned the usefulness of the e-voting system, the party in Sarawak would abide by the decision of the central leadership to continue using it.

He said the state party election committee will strive to ensure that everything goes smoothly come Nov 11.

This, he said, was one of the reasons the state party leadership, in particular election committee members, would be entering the interiors of the state to better explain the system to grassroots members.

“Committee members at branch levels have also been ordered to give detailed briefings on the e-voting system, which is being used for the first time. The main focus of the briefing is to ensure that those in rural areas, who are not so familiar with information technology, can grasp what needs to be done (when casting their ballots),” he said.

Baharuddin said the state election committee had already made all the necessary preparations to face the elections on Nov 10.

“We are aware that there was some trouble in several states, including Melaka and Selangor, but we hope nothing of the sort happens in Sarawak. We also hope that there will be no problems with the Internet, as had been the case in several areas in some states.”

The PKR elections in Sarawak will involve 29 branches.
