Outcome of PKR number two contest will not split party leaders, says Rafizi

JULAU: The outcome of the hotly-contested PKR deputy presidency will not create a division among the party’s leadership, says Rafizi Ramli.

Rafizi, who is challenging the party’s number two post against the incumbent Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, said PKR is a party that is used to crisis and thus, will resolve any issues internally.

However, he admitted that the fierce competition between him and Azmin has led to some viewing it as a sign of cracks within PKR.

“This (contest for the deputy presidency) is undoubtedly the most heated in PKR’s history and is taking place while we are within the government administration.

“I give my assurance that this will not lead to any division. We are reformists who have been fighting for 20 years and we are used to crisis,” he said when met at the Jula division polling centre at the Julau Sports Complex here.

Rafizi said he is also confident that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, whose win as the new party president is now a matter of formality, will be able to reunite the party members after the election.

“What’s important in PKR is for all members to respect Anwar and accept him as the leader.

“The question of who wins or loses is not a priority; what’s more important is that we stand firm behind Anwar,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rafizi said he is certain that he has the support of two of the major PKR divisions in Sarawak, which are Julau and Pensiangan.

“Julau has 13,000 members while Pensiangan has 11,000. The majority of the members in these divisions are my supporters. I am confident that the support will be translated into votes for me,” he said.
