Seven Sarawak branches vote on final day of PKR elections

KUCHING: Over 10,000 PKR members will cast their ballots in the party’s leadership elections in seven PKR divisions in Sarawak today.

This is the final day of PKR’s party elections, which sees the race for the deputy president post between Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Rafizi Ramli too close to call.

Polls opened at 9am today in Sibu, which has 2,458 members, Santubong (1,949), Petra Jaya (1,526), Sri Aman (1,411), Puncak Borneo (1,408), Sarikei (1,397) and Stampin (538).

Election centres will close at 5pm.

A check at the Stampin polling centre at the party’s headquarters here saw members begin queuing to vote at 8.30am. The process seemed smooth.

Canopies were seen displayed at the front of the office, while posters of candidates were ubiquitous.

It is learnt that that Stampin’s 500 PKR members are strongly behind Azmin for the deputy president post.

Yesterday, Azmin polled 2,858 votes, leading Rafizi, who garnered 1,507 votes, after 21 branches in the state completed voting.

Polling in the largest Sarawak division – Julau – however, was controversially suspended over a technical issue.
