PUTRAJAYA: Sarawak’s Petrajaya PKR branch chief candidate Iswardi Morni has lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) over alleged attempts to disrupt the election process at the branch recently.
The 41-year-old candidate alleged there were efforts conspired against him by making last minute change to the election date which was originally set on Nov 10 to Nov 11 that had caused some of his supporters unable to make it to cast their votes.
“The election was scheduled to be on Nov 10 and I had informed it to 1,580 voters. I was later told on Nov 7 that the date had been changed to Nov 11.
“I voiced my protest and on Nov 8, I received a notice stating that the election date had been changed back to Nov 10. But, on the night of Nov 9, it was said that the date was changed again to Nov 11. The notice came in too late, whereas in the (party) website and letter, the election should take place on Nov 10,” he said when met at the MACC headquarters here.
Iswardi lost 32 votes to his contender, adding that he had arrived at the branch election centre on Nov 10 with his voters, but the PKR Central Election Committee was not present.
He also expressed his bafflement on the difference in the number of votes secured for the post he was vying for with the votes garnered for the PKR deputy president post.
“My contender got 191 votes and I received 159 votes. But, deputy president candidates Rafizi Ramli secured more than 120 votes and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali garnered over 150 votes.
“Why is the number of votes for the deputy president post fewer than the branch chief votes? How did the votes go missing?” he asked, adding that he had lost faith the in Central Election Committee.
Iswardi said he had lodged a police report regarding the party election issue and submitted his protest to the Central Election Committee.
