Tony Pua disappointed after being booted out of Selangor DAP line-up

PETALING JAYA: Petaling Jaya member of parliament Tony Pua has been booted out of the Selangor DAP leadership after he failed to clinch a spot in the 15-member state committee.

Pua, who previously indicated his intention not to continue as Selangor DAP chairman, said he was disappointed with the results as he would not be able to work with his successor Gobind Singh Deo in the newly appointed committee.

"Of course, I'm a little disappointed. It would be odd not to be. But I accept the results.

"I am disappointed because I wasn't voted (as one of the 15 committee members). I didn't want to continue as state chairman but that doesn't mean I didn't want to be part of the committee.

"I wanted to be (in the committee) to support the new state chairman (Gobind)," he told reporters at the Selangor DAP Ordinary Convention 2018 here today.

The election to appoint the 15 new Selangor DAP committee members was held in conjunction with the convention.

Pua polled 292 votes and came in 19th position.

DAP's election system involves a two-tiered process where delegates can only vote for the top 15 individuals they want to see in the leadership.

The 15 candidates who garnered the highest number of votes then decide among themselves to fill the 15 available leadership positions.

Gobind, who is Puchong member of parliament and Communications and Multimedia Minister, was named state chairman and his deputy is Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Selangor Legislative Assembly Speaker Ng Swee Lim and Selangor executive councillor V. Ganabatirau, meanwhile, were appointed vice-chairmen of the state chapter.
