Six MPs may announce their departure from Umno today

KUALA LUMPUR: Rumours have been circulating overnight that a former minister has relinquished his position as division chief and will bring five other MPs with him to announce their departure from Umno today.

Two of the Parliamentarians come from the northern state, two from Negri Sembilan and two more from the East Coast.

New Straits Times has been made to understand that they may plan to announce their departure after Friday prayers.

“The former minister is expected to announce their (the group’s) departure from Umno within 24 hours.

“We believe it will be after prayers today, you know, to get some blessings (ambil berkat) first,” sources say.

Sources added that there could also be more on the list that may be leaving Umno today.

Yesterday, the NST reported that a second wave of exodus from a northern state was expected following the 25 or so Sabah representatives that left Umno.

A source said Sabah has taken the lead and was part of a bigger group of Umno soon-to-be leavers.
