Defence Minister denies Hishammuddin's statement

LIPIS: The Defence Ministry has refuted allegations by former Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) led government will not continue its assistance to Armed Forces veteran.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu said programmes planned for the Armed Forces veteran including medical and education assistance which was introduced by Barisan Nasional (BN) would be continued with some additional improvements.

"Not true ( Hishammuddin's claim)... we will continue the assistance and also improve it...not only to look into the needs of the veteran here (Jelai) but also nationwide.

"We will continue providing their (Armed Forces veteran) rights including medical, housing, living cost and the Armed Forces Council is back active after six years," he said.

Earlier, Mohamad Sabu along with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and PH candidate, M. Manogaran joined a walkabout at the Sungai Koyan night market.

Earlier today former Defence Minister Hishammuddin during a meeting with Armed Forces veteran here raised concern about the welfare of the veteran claiming they have not being receiving proper treatment from the PH government.

He said the PH-led government have not done anything significant to help the veteran group after administering the country for some nine months.
